WHAT TO EXPECT

Emily is deeply fascinated in the holistic relationship between the body, heart, mind and spirit. A yoga practice, to her is an opportunity to explore the dance between the tangible and ethereal. She draws inspiration from the many facets of her existence, including theatre movement training, dance, breath training, spirituality, ritual, personal empowerment, trauma-informed perspectives and nervous system regulation.

She believes in the power of yoga to reprogram our reactive selves, as we take a step back and observe during our practice.

She believes that you DO NOT need to be flexible to do yoga. The benefits of this practice are available to all bodies.

Practice with Emily to sweat, to feel (with complete non-judgement), to express, to get stronger, and maybe even sneak in a little giggle.

“Emily is the kind of teacher who, even after one class, stays with you in every practice from that point forward. She has this ability to understand the vast range of needs in a room and offer a practice for everyone, while also sprinkling these unique, individualized lessons along the way. Thanks to Emily, things I’ve always struggled with have finally started to make sense to me. That high level of skill, sensitivity, and awareness is, I find, extremely rare in a teacher, and it’s what makes me feel so safe with her as a student. She’s funny and she’s wise. She’s warm. She’s incredible at what she does, and her heart is in it, too. ”

LINEAGE

Emily is a certified 200hr RYT, trained in Vinyasa Yoga with Clara Roberts-Oss and Carolyn Budgell. She also is trained as a Yin Yoga teacher through Jolene Bayda, and a meditation teacher through Carolyn Budgell. She attributes much of her learning and growth to her time assisting Mara Branscombe, as well as all the teachers at One Yoga for the People Vancouver.

In her “previous life” Emily worked as an actor and earned her BFA in Theatre Performance from the University of Victoria. She also completed the Conservatory Program at The Second City Toronto and trained with Patsy Rodenburg (Second Circle) in New York City.

“After I attended my first yoga class with Emily I was hooked. Her priority was the comfort and success of each individual, offering immense patience to beginners and thoughtful instruction to intermediates. She brings to every practice a vast technical knowledge, but puts the class at ease with her natural humour and warmth. I also appreciate the adjustments and gentle guidance she provides which has helped me grow in my own practice.”

how to work with me:

  • are you a movement studio looking for a dynamic and heart driven teacher? you’ve found her.

i create intelligent, creative sequences and share them from a trauma-informed perspective. a yoga practice to me is so much more than exercise, it is a chance to unify and balance all the facets of being human.

  • whether you are brand new to yoga and are looking to learn the foundations in a safe and supportive atmosphere, or a yogi with a consistent practice looking to take things deeper, i would love to work with you.

group classes are wonderful, but if you are interested in creating a practice that works for your unique self, get in touch!

  • this option is perfect for newer yoga teachers who are looking for support in up-leveling their offerings.

my background is not only in yoga, but theatre performance so i can assist with aspects that usually fall by the way-side, like vocal projection, holding space, and holding healthy boundaries.

  • if you are looking to provide an outlet for your staff to stretch and practice mindfulness, consider building a yoga session into your work week.

session lengths can vary based on your needs and can be offered in person or online.
